Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of West Indies tour and Migael Pretorius has been named as his replacement
South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the two-match Test series against the West Indies next month.
The 23-year-old sustained a low-grade side strain while playing for the Texas Super Kings in the ongoing Major League Cricket tournament earlier this month.
After returning home and undergoing further assessments, the Proteas medical team has deemed him unfit for the tour.
Uncapped fast bowler Migael Pretorius has been named as Coetzee’s replacement.
The 29-year-old was previously called up to the Test side in 2020 for the series against Sri Lanka but did not make an appearance.
Pretorius enters the series in strong form, having taken 23 wickets in eight games in the ongoing County Championship Division in England.
The first Test is scheduled to take place at the Port of Spain in Trinidad from August 7, with the second Test set for Guyana from August 15.
