West Indies completed a 3-0 T20I series sweep with a commanding 8-wicket victory over South Africa in the third T20I at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad.

The match, reduced to 13 overs per side due to rain, saw Shai Hope score a quickfire 42*, supported by Nicholas Pooran (35) and Shimron Hetmyer (31*), as West Indies chased down the target of 116 with 22 balls to spare.

Tristan Stubbs was the standout performer for South Africa with a blistering 40 off 15 balls.

Akeal Hosein and Matthew Forde initially kept the scoring rate under control.

Forde’s attempt to restrict Ryan Rickelton was interrupted by rain, which delayed play for an hour and led to the reduction of seven overs per side.

When play resumed, Reeza Hendricks was dismissed after pulling a short delivery from left-arm spinner Fabian Allen to deep midwicket.

Rickelton, who was dropped at cover, eventually hit Gudakesh Motie for a six.

Aiden Markram also scored 16 runs off an over from Motie, including a four and a six.

Romario Shepherd took two key wickets, bringing Tristan Stubbs to the crease.

Stubbs launched two sixes and a four against Obed McCoy, and then hit Forde for two boundaries and a six before being dismissed for 40 off 15 balls, leaving South Africa at 108 for 4 in 13 overs.

Chasing a revised target of 116, West Indies lost Alick Athanaze early to Bjorn Fortuin but Pooran quickly made his mark with a six off Fortuin’s first ball and continued aggressively against Lizaad Williams, hitting two more sixes.

Hope also dominated, hitting three sixes off Kwena Maphaka and contributing significantly to a 60 for 2 score in the Power Play.

Patrick Kruger’s quiet overs briefly slowed West Indies, but Hetmyer’s six off Maphaka and three boundaries off Baartman reignited the chase.

Hope sealed the win with a massive six over cover.
