Chloe Tryon is set to make her Test comeback after South Africa announced a settled squad for the upcoming one-off Test against England, scheduled to take place in Bloemfontein from December 15.

The allrounder had missed South Africa’s previous Test, against India in Chennai, due to a back injury.

The 15-member squad features just one change from the group selected for the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship ODIs in the multi-format series.

Tumi Sekhukhune replaces fellow pacer Ayabonga Khaka, who is not part of South Africa’s red-ball setup.

Also returning are the experienced duo of Lara Goodall and Ayanda Hlubi, both of whom were absent from the team for the India Test.

The squad also includes uncapped wicketkeeper-batter Mieke de Ridder, who will be part of the squad for South Africa’s first home Test since March 2002 and their eighth encounter with England.

“I’m excited.

It will go a long way for the ladies in terms of them understanding their game and what’s needed in the longer version of the game.

Getting an opportunity to play red-ball cricket is good for our team, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can bring,” said head coach Mandla Mashimbyi.

“The measurables are quite simple for me: it’s how much time you’re willing to spend at the crease as a batter and how patient you’re willing to be as a bowler.

These are the things we will focus on, and if we see that coming to fruition, it will be a big plus.”

“We reviewed the previous Test squad and made adjustments to bring balance to the team,” added South Africa Women’s convenor of selectors, Clinton du Preez.

“Lara adds versatility to the batting line-up as a left-hander, Hlubi provides variation as an impact seam bowler, and Tumi has been consistent in her past performances, offering control to the bowling attack alongside our other bowlers.”
