Senuran Muthusamy has earned a Test recall for South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh

South Africa have recalled Senuran Muthusamy to the Test squad for their upcoming two-match tour of Bangladesh in October.
The all-rounder, who bowls left-arm orthodox, is part of a spin trio that also includes Keshav Maharaj and Dane Piedt.
Muthusamy has played three Test matches, with his most recent appearance in March 2023.
In first-class cricket, he boasts 247 wickets and nearly 5,000 runs at an average of 30.41.
As expected, Kagiso Rabada will spearhead the pace attack, supported by Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and Wiaan Mulder.
Notably, Lungi Ngidi and Migael Pretorius are the only two from South Africa’s previous Test squad, against the West Indies in July-August, to miss out on selection for this series.
South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad praised the squad’s versatility and depth, particularly highlighting the importance of the spin unit, which could play a key role in Bangladesh’s spin-friendly conditions.
“I want to firstly thank both Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board for ensuring the series goes ahead.
Bangladesh is always a tough place to tour, and they’ve become a formidable side at home.
We need to be well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
We’ve selected this squad based on the conditions we expect to face.
“Our three frontline spinners are all capable of stepping up when required, and this is a great opportunity for someone like Senuran, who has the potential to make an impact with both bat and ball.
We’re excited to see what he can bring to the table,” said Conrad.
South Africa’s tour of Bangladesh, now officially confirmed, begins on October 21 in Dhaka, with the second Test scheduled in Chattogram from November 2.
