Cricket South Africa has greenlit the upcoming tour by Bangladesh
In a significant development for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially confirmed a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to commence on October 21.
Cricpulse previously reported that Bangladesh was keen to host South Africa, despite initial security concerns following the relocation of the Women’s T20 World Cup.
However, the BCB expressed confidence in meeting the requirements of the visiting CSA security team, which was appointed to oversee the safety measures for the tour.
“It’s certainly reassuring to see international cricket returning to Bangladesh,” said Nazmul Abedin, BCB’s director, in an interview with Cricpulse on Monday (September 30).
“While there were some concerns, we believe things are under control here, and there are no significant issues.
What matters is how the outside world perceives us, and it’s encouraging to know that they view us as a safe destination.”
Abedin added, “I hope this positive sentiment extends to other countries, and if we can successfully host this home series against South Africa, it will help reassure other teams about coming here.”
Recently, a security assessment was carried out by CSA’s Operations Manager, Team Security Manager, Safety and Security Consultant, and a representative from the South African Cricketers’ Association.
“CSA has given the series the green light based on recommendations made following an on-site inspection visit to Bangladesh,” CSA stated in their announcement on Monday.
The Proteas are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on October 16, ahead of their first Test match against Bangladesh from October 21 to 25.
Following this, the team will travel to Chattogram for the second Test, scheduled from October 29 to November 2.
