2nd Test
Day-3 Morning Session Highlights:
Kagiso Rabada’s five-wicket haul has crushed the Bangladesh team in the first session of Day-3
At The Lunch of Day-3:
South Africa scored 575/6 decl (1st Innings), where as Bangladesh scored 137/8 (1st Innings).
So, finally South Africa lead by 438 runs.
Kagiso Rabada (5-37) claimed his second consecutive five-wicket haul of the series, leaving Bangladesh in a dire situation at 137/8 at lunch on Day 3 of the second Test against South Africa in Chattogram.
It could have been an even more humiliating scenario for the hosts if not for an unbroken 89-run partnership between Mominul Haque (74*) and Taijul Islam (18*), as Bangladesh had been reduced to a precarious 48/8 early in the day.
Rabada set the tone right from the start, getting Najmul Hossain Shanto to edge behind to the keeper with a perfect delivery.
Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim then fell to a soft dismissal, flicking an uppish shot straight to short mid-wicket off Dane Paterson.
Bangladesh’s morning had gotten off to the worst possible start, with the pressure mounting.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has often been the crisis man for Bangladesh, couldn’t survive long either, succumbing to Rabada’s relentless spell.
Rabada then claimed another victim, sending Mahidul Islam back for a duck.
At 48/8, the prospect of a follow-on seemed imminent, with the Proteas on the brink of wrapping up the innings.
However, Mominul and Taijul dug in, combining for a gritty stand to frustrate South Africa’s charge.
As the session progressed, the pitch also eased slightly, giving the batsmen some respite.
Despite this, Bangladesh are still far behind in the game, with 239 more runs needed to avoid the follow-on — a daunting task unless this unlikely partnership can pull off a remarkable recovery.
