At The Tea of Day-1:

South Africa scored 205/1 (1st Innings) vs Bangladesh.

Bangladesh found themselves under pressure in the post-lunch session of Day 1 in the second Test, failing to take a wicket throughout the period.

South Africa, having taken early control, continued to exploit the Bangladesh bowling attack, with Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs adding over 100 runs together.

De Zorzi celebrated his maiden Test century, while Stubbs remained unbeaten on a half-century as the visitors went into the tea break at 205/1.

De Zorzi quickly reached his fifty as the session began, while Bangladesh wasted a review in an attempt to dismiss him.

After a quieter period with a slower run rate, Stubbs broke the monotony with a boundary through the covers off Hasan Mahmud.

In that same over, Mahmud found the edge of de Zorzi’s bat, but the ball fell short of the fielder at first slip.

De Zorzi scored his first boundary of the session with a reverse sweep after the drinks break, and both batters hit a boundary each off Mehidy Hasan, bringing up their century partnership.

After surviving a DRS appeal, Stubbs launched a huge six off Mehidy, and in the next over, de Zorzi took on Taijul Islam, sending one over deep midwicket to move into the 90s.

Just when it seemed de Zorzi would have to wait for the final session to reach his milestone, he swept Mehidy for another boundary in the penultimate over, achieving his maiden ton off just 146 deliveries.

The home side now faces the challenge of a productive final session to salvage something from what has been a largely one-sided opening day.
