At The Lunch of Day-1:
South Africa scored 109/1 (1st Innings) vs Bangladesh
South Africa made a strong start in the second Test in Chattogram after opting to bat first against Bangladesh.
The openers put together a solid 69-run partnership for the first wicket.
Although Aiden Markram couldn’t capitalize on his start, Tony de Zorzi remained unbeaten on 49 at lunch, leaving the visitors at 109/1.
Both teams made several changes to their lineups.
Bangladesh handed a debut to wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam and made two additional changes, while South Africa included Senuran Muthusamy and Dane Peterson.
Aiden Markram, again captaining in place of Temba Bavuma, began well with a couple of elegant cover drives.
De Zorzi received an early reprieve when the wicketkeeper failed to catch an outside edge off Hasan Mahmud, and he quickly made Bangladesh pay by smashing a six off Taijul Islam in the next over.
This shot seemed to boost his confidence, and the openers brought up 50 runs in just 11 overs, looking set for more.
However, Taijul struck shortly after the drinks break; Markram mistimed a shot, sending a simple catch to the mid-on fielder.
Tristan Stubbs, starting cautiously, hit his first boundary with a reverse sweep, while de Zorzi continued to look solid at the other end.
The pair added 40 runs in quick succession before the break, and given the favorable batting conditions, they will be eager to build on their partnership.
