Vikram Rathour, the former India batting coach, has joined the New Zealand support staff for their upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan in Noida.
Additionally, Rangana Herath has been appointed as the spin bowling coach for this Test and the subsequent two-Test series against Sri Lanka.
Rathour, who was part of the coaching staff under Rahul Dravid that concluded with India’s T20 World Cup victory, brings extensive experience from his playing days and coaching career.
Herath, the most successful left-arm spinner in Test history, steps in to replace Saqlain Mushtaq, who withdrew to take a role with the Pakistan Cricket Board.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, highlighting their expertise and the benefits they will bring to the team.
“We’re really excited to introduce Rangana and Vikram into our Test group.
Both men are held in high regard in the world of cricket, and our players are eager to learn from them.
Rangana’s experience, particularly in sub-continental conditions, will be invaluable.”
The one-off Test against Afghanistan starts on September 9, followed by the first Test against Sri Lanka on September 18, and the second Test on September 30.
Both series are part of the World Test Championship, where New Zealand is currently ranked third.
