The Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed former India fielding coach R. Sridhar as an assistant coach for the senior men’s team.
Sridhar, 54, will join the squad for the upcoming one-off Test against New Zealand and the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
A long-term contract may be considered in the future.
Sridhar brings extensive coaching experience, having served as India’s fielding coach under Ravi Shastri until the 2021 T20 World Cup.
He also held roles at India’s National Cricket Academy as an assistant fielding and spin bowling coach from 2008 to 2014 and was an assistant coach for the 2014 India Under-19 World Cup team.
Additionally, Sridhar has worked with the Kings XI Punjab franchise in the IPL.
In the Afghanistan setup, Sridhar will collaborate with head coach Jonathan Trott as they prepare for the Test against New Zealand in Noida starting September 9, followed by the ODIs against South Africa in Sharjah from September 18.
