South Africa maintained their dominance in the first Test at Centurion, taking five key wickets in the second session to restrict Pakistan’s progress.

Marco Jansen completed a five-wicket haul, dismantling Pakistan’s middle order.

The visitors, who had been 153 for 3 at one point, ended the session at 212 for 8, despite a 79-run partnership between Saud Shakeel (66*) and Babar Azam (50).

South Africa now leads by 122 runs.

Following a rain-affected first session on Day 3, Kagiso Rabada, the hosts’ most consistent bowler, struggled in his opening spell.

He gave away width, which Shakeel and Azam capitalized on, as Pakistan quickly reduced the deficit.

The two batters played positively during the first hour, consistently finding boundaries.

Pakistan soon gained a 50-run lead, and Azam reached his first half-century in 20 innings, a significant achievement after more than a year.

However, just after reaching the milestone, Azam was dismissed, slicing a loose delivery from Jansen to deep point.

The session proved to be a mixed one for Pakistan.

Shakeel survived a close LBW call, eventually reaching his own 50.

But following every milestone, a wicket seemed to fall.

Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for just three, strangled down the leg side, and Salman Agha followed soon after, edging a cover drive to the keeper.

Jansen claimed his fifth wicket.

A brief 32-run partnership between Shakeel and Aamer Jamal offered some resistance, but Jamal fell to a pull shot, caught at deep mid-wicket off Dane Paterson.

Rabada soon struck again, dismissing Naseem Shah, who was caught behind at third slip.

Pakistan’s innings continued to unravel as they struggled to make a comeback.
