Pakistan scored 81/3 vs Bangladesh.

Saim Ayub and Saud Shakeel spearheaded Pakistan’s recovery on Day 1 of the first Test in Rawalpindi after Bangladesh’s seamers inflicted early damage when play finally began.

After losing three quick wickets, an unbroken 65-run partnership between Ayub and Shakeel guided Pakistan to 81/3 at Tea.

The first day’s play commenced four hours later than scheduled due to a wet outfield, which kept the groundsmen busy and the players waiting.

Following multiple inspections, the toss took place at 2:00 PM local time, with Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto choosing to bowl, hoping to exploit the moisture and generous grass on the pitch.

Hasan Mahmud provided the early breakthrough, enticing Abdullah Shafique into a drive, resulting in an edge that was brilliantly caught by Zakir Hasan in the slip cordon.

Pakistan captain Shan Masood showcased a classy backfoot drive for the first boundary of the day, but his innings was cut short as Shoriful Islam had him caught behind.

Bangladesh successfully reviewed the decision, with the DRS confirming the dismissal, though Masood appeared displeased, suggesting the Ultra Edge spike occurred after the ball had passed the bat.

Pakistan found themselves in deeper trouble at 16/3 when Shoriful removed Babar Azam for a duck, with Litton Das taking a superb catch down the leg side.

Shakeel began confidently, driving a Nahid Rana delivery past mid-off for a boundary, while Ayub, who initially played cautiously, began to find his rhythm, hitting drives and flicks for a few doubles.

Ayub’s first four came from a cut shot off Mahmud, followed by an expensive over from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, where Shakeel swept for a boundary and Ayub advanced down the track to loft one over long-off for a six.

The frequency of boundaries increased as the session progressed, with the fourth-wicket pair quickly raising a fifty partnership.

A stylish on-drive off Rana earned Ayub another boundary as he entered the 40s and went into the break unbeaten alongside Shakeel.
