The New Zealand women’s cricket team will tour India for a three-match ODI series following the conclusion of the World Cup
The New Zealand women’s cricket team will visit India immediately after the ongoing T20 World Cup final for a three-match ODI series in Ahmedabad.
These ODIs, scheduled for October 24, 27, and 29, are part of the ICC Women’s ODI Championship 2022-25.
Originally, New Zealand was set to tour last year, but the series was postponed due to India’s packed winter schedule in 2023, which included a couple of one-off Tests against England and Australia following the conclusion of the ninth edition of the WBBL.
With crucial Championship points at stake, both teams are expected to field full-strength squads, meaning some of the top players may miss at least the first couple of rounds of the WBBL 2024, which starts on the same day as the second ODI.
Six Indian players, including vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, are set to participate in the Australian league this year.
After the WBBL concludes on December 1, India is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Australia from December 5-11.
New Zealand currently sits sixth in the 10-team IWC standings, with just eight wins from their 18 ODIs.
As hosts of the 2025 ODI World Cup, India has automatic qualification for the event.
To give the team exposure to a variety of venues ahead of the tournament, the BCCI has allocated these ODIs to the newly-built Narendra Modi Stadium.
In addition to India, the top five teams in the IWC standings will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the remaining four teams will have to compete in the qualifiers for a spot in the tournament, which is set for October-November 2025.
