Sri Lanka player Oshada Fernando has made a return for the New Zealand Test series
Nishan Madushka, the opening batter, has been omitted from the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand, with Oshada Fernando returning to the team.
Nisala Tharaka and Kasun Rajitha, who were also part of Sri Lanka’s squad during the three-Test tour of England, have been excluded from the 16-member team set to face New Zealand.
Fernando recently made significant contributions for Sri Lanka A in the first unofficial Test against South Africa A, scoring 122 and 80 to help secure a six-wicket victory in Kimberley.
In contrast, Madushka struggled on the England tour, managing scores of 4, 0, 7, and 13 in the first two Tests before being dropped for the third.
Pathum Nissanka, who replaced him, delivered impressive performances with 64 and an unbeaten 127, playing a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s victory at The Oval.
The first Test against New Zealand begins on September 18, and the second Test is scheduled for September 26.
Both matches, part of the World Test Championship, will be held in Galle.
