Asalanka has retained the captaincy, while Shanaka and Chameera has continued to be sidelined
Sri Lanka Cricket has announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming series against New Zealand, with former captain Dasun Shanaka continuing to be overlooked.
Charith Asalanka will lead the team once again, while Dushmantha Chameera remains unavailable, having been sidelined since July due to bronchitis and a respiratory infection, which ruled him out of the series against India.
Left-handed batter Kusal Perera makes a return to the ODI squad, having last featured in a 50-over match for Sri Lanka during the 2023 World Cup against New Zealand.
Perera recently impressed with an unbeaten 55 in Sri Lanka’s match-winning effort in the third T20I against the West Indies.
The ODI squad also sees the inclusion of pacer Mohamed Shiraz, who made his debut against India in the first ODI but has not featured since then.
Meanwhile, the T20I squad remains unchanged from the one Sri Lanka selected for their successful 2-1 series win over the West Indies.
The T20I series marks the beginning of New Zealand’s white-ball tour of Sri Lanka.
The matches will be held in Dambulla on November 9 and 10, followed by the first ODI on November 13.
The final two ODIs will be played in Pallekele on November 17 and 19.
