Calf injury has forced the Lockie Ferguson to miss the Sri Lanka ODIs
Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a calf injury, with Adam Milne called up as his replacement.
Ferguson sustained the injury while playing a key role in New Zealand’s victory in the second T20I of the recently concluded series, which ended 1-1.
The 33-year-old was forced to hobble off the field after his second over, but not before making a significant impact with a hat-trick that helped secure a five-run win for the visitors.
Ferguson will return home for further scans to assess the severity of the injury and the expected rehabilitation timeline.
“We’re gutted for Lockie,” said head coach Gary Stead.
“In just two overs, he showed what an asset he is with the ball, and his leadership has also been invaluable to the team.
He will be a big loss as we head into an important ODI series.
While it’s tough to lose a player so early in a tour, we’re hopeful his recovery will be swift, and he’ll be back on the field soon.
Adam is a like-for-like replacement with genuine pace and a wealth of international experience, so we’re looking forward to having him join the squad.”
The first ODI of the series will take place in Dambulla on Wednesday, November 13.
