Kane Williamson is set to miss the third test against India which is going to be played in Mumbai
Kane Williamson is set to miss the third Test against India, scheduled to take place in Mumbai, as announced by New Zealand Cricket on Tuesday.
Having already missed the first two Tests of the series, Williamson will not travel to India for the final Test to ensure he is fully fit for the upcoming home series against England, which begins on November 28.
He has been sidelined as a precaution to continue his rehabilitation for a groin injury.
“Kane continues to show good signs, but he isn’t quite ready to jump on a plane and join us,” said Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach.
“While things are looking promising, we believe the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on completing his rehabilitation so he’ll be ready for England.
The series against England is still a month away, so taking a cautious approach now will ensure he is fit for the first Test in Christchurch.”
New Zealand has already secured victories in the first two Tests of the series against India and will aim for a clean sweep to boost their chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final.
The third Test begins in Mumbai on Friday.
