India pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been recovering from injury, is set to make his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy.

The Cricket Association of Bengal confirmed that Shami will feature in the upcoming match against Madhya Pradesh in Indore, starting Wednesday, November 13.

Shami has not played for India since the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, marking the end of a lengthy rehabilitation process.

He had to undergo surgery for an Achilles heel injury and later faced a setback with knee swelling, which delayed his recovery.

Despite these challenges, Shami managed a few training sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru during India’s Test series against New Zealand.

His return to competitive cricket will also be a significant boost for India as they prepare for a five-Test tour of Australia, beginning November 22.

Although Shami was not included in the squad for the Australia tour, India captain Rohit Sharma expressed hope that Shami could be fit for part of the series.

If Shami’s fitness checks out, he could still be included in the squad ahead of the tour.
