The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has established a seven-member senior selection committee, comprising four former Test cricketers, without a chairman.
The committee includes a data analyst, a novel addition, alongside Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, and Asad Shafiq.
Additionally, the national team’s captain and coach, along with Wahab Riaz, the former chairman of selectors, are part of the committee.
New PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced the formation of the new selection committee during a media conference at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
However, the identities of the captains and coaches for the national teams, particularly in white-ball cricket, remain undisclosed.
The PCB is reportedly seeking a foreign coach, with some candidates having prior experience in India.
While Shan Masood captains the Test team, Pakistan’s immediate focus is on T20 cricket, notably the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in the US and the Caribbean in June.
Although Shaheen Shah Afridi was previously announced as T20I captain, his confirmation for the upcoming matches is pending.
Pakistan’s upcoming schedule includes a five-match T20I series against New Zealand at home from April 18 to 27, followed by fixtures in Ireland and England before the World Cup.
PCB chairman Naqvi emphasized the autonomy of the selection committee, stating, “I will not interfere with the working of the selection committee.
They are experienced and professional in their domain, and I am confident that they will do their job with dedication and honesty,” as quoted by local media.
