Afghanistan’s star allrounder, Mohammad Nabi, is set to retire from ODI cricket after the upcoming Champions Trophy.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Chief Executive, Naseeb Khan, confirmed the news to Cricpulse on Friday.

“Yes, Nabi is retiring from ODIs after the Champions Trophy, and he has informed the board about his decision,” Naseeb told Cricpulse.

“A few months ago, he shared with me that he plans to end his ODI career following the Champions Trophy, and we respect his decision.

As far as we understand, he will continue to play T20Is for Afghanistan after that, and that’s the current plan,” he added.

Nabi made his debut for Afghanistan in their first-ever ODI in 2009, marking the occasion with a half-century against Scotland.

Over the course of his career, he has accumulated 3,549 runs in 165 ODIs, with an average of 27.30, and has taken 171 wickets.

In the opening match of the ongoing three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Sharjah, Nabi played a crucial role with the bat, scoring a well-made 82 to help Afghanistan set a competitive total.

The total was defended successfully, thanks to a brilliant six-wicket haul by Allah Ghazanfar.

Nabi had previously retired from Test cricket in 2019.
