So, finally Washington Freedom beat MI New York by 94 runs.

Defending champions MI New York faced their third loss in five games of the MLC 2024 season, suffering a 94-run defeat against the undefeated Washington Freedom at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Led by an explosive performance from Travis Head, the Freedom scored 182 runs before bowling out MI New York for just 88 in 13.3 overs.

This victory marked Freedom’s fourth win in five matches, securing their playoff spot.

The only bright spot for MI New York was winning the toss, with Kieron Pollard opting to field first.

After three quiet overs, Freedom had only 22 runs on the board before Head attacked Trent Boult with a four and a six.

Despite Rashid Khan dismissing Steve Smith, MI New York managed to restrict their opponents to 45 runs during the Power Play.

However, the momentum shifted when Head unleashed a flurry of boundaries, scoring three off Nosthush Kenjige and following up with a six and a four off Ehsan Adil to reach his half-century in just 28 balls.

Andries Gous, initially slow, accelerated with two sixes off Rashid in the 11th over, bringing the total to 100.

MI New York clawed back when Romario Shepherd dismissed Head for 54, but Glenn Maxwell soon fell to Rashid for 15, while Gous steadily approached his own half-century.

By the 17th over, Freedom had only 137 runs, but the last three overs added 45 runs, with Rachin Ravindra’s explosive 31 off 14 balls.

Gous ended his innings with a 48-ball 59, pushing the score past 180.

In reply, MI New York struggled dramatically, with their top six batters contributing scores of 0, 3, 4, 2, 4, and 4.

They were reduced to 25 for 5 after the Power Play, and Jasdeep Singh’s third wicket made it 25 for 6, taking Pollard’s wicket.

Marco Jansen, Lockie Ferguson, and Glenn Maxwell each took two wickets, while only Romario Shepherd’s 25 offered any resistance in another disappointing batting display for MI New York.
