Australia will get their first glimpse into their white-ball future in the T20I series against England and Scotland as batting sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk steps in to fill the void left by the retiring David Warner.
Australia has also included 20-year-old Cooper Connolly, following his strong performances for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League over the last two seasons.
Connolly has been a solid finisher for the Scorchers, delivering a standout performance in last year’s final to help secure a title win.
Connolly has maintained a strike rate of 145.81 in the BBL so far and has taken six wickets in 15 matches with his left-arm spin.
From the squad that featured at the World Cup, Ashton Agar and Matthew Wade have been dropped, with Josh Inglis expected to take up wicketkeeping duties.
While senior pro Pat Cummins has been rested for both formats, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc will miss the T20Is before joining up with the ODI squad.
While Australia’s T20I squad features more new and young faces, the ODI team looks more settled, with a Champions Trophy coming up in less than a year’s time.
Matthew Short will miss the T20I series to stay at home for the birth of his first child and will join up with the ODI squad along with Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, and Sean Abbott.
Australia will start off by playing three T20Is against Scotland on September 4, 6, and 7 before taking on England in the same format on September 11, 13, and 15.
The five-match ODI series against England will then take place between September 19 and 29.
