IPL 2025 Mega Auction : KL Rahul meets LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka as discussions on IPL retention intensify

Rahul has captained LSG for all three seasons he has played with the team

As discussions around IPL retention heat up, Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul visited the franchise’s Kolkata office on Monday to meet with owner Sanjiv Goenka.

The meeting, held at Goenka’s office on Judges Court Road, Alipore, lasted approximately one hour.

This was the first formal interaction between Rahul and Goenka since their animated discussion following the loss to SunRisers Hyderabad on May 8.

While the details of their conversation are not publicly known, Cricpulse understands that the meeting focused on team composition and the potential retention of Rahul.

The outcome of whether the franchise will retain the India wicketkeeper-batter is yet to be decided, but Rahul’s visit to the owner could be a sign of ongoing negotiations.

Neither party has provided immediate comment.

Speculation about Rahul’s potential return to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) remains unconfirmed, and auction dynamics mean there is no certainty that a franchise can secure a player it targets.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to announce the official retention policy, leaving it unclear how many players each team will be allowed to retain.

The Right to Match (RTM) option could also influence retention decisions.

Rahul’s visit follows news that the franchise plans to appoint Zaheer Khan as a mentor, a development first reported by Cricpulse on August 19.

The former India pacer’s appointment is expected to be confirmed soon, and he will work alongside Justin Langer, who will continue as head coach.

Rahul has served as captain for LSG across all three of his seasons with the team.

He was recently part of India’s ODI squad that toured Sri Lanka and will next compete in the Duleep Trophy in Bengaluru, representing Team A, captained by Shubman Gill.
