Thushara sustained an injury during a practice session.

In another injury blow for the Sri Lankan T20I side, fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has been ruled out of the India series.

Dilshan Madhushanka has been named as his replacement.

Thushara is the second fast bowler to be ruled out in as many days, following Dushmantha Chameera’s sidelining as reported yesterday.

Thushara suffered an injury to his left thumb during a fielding practice session last evening.

Thushara rose to prominence with his slingy action during the SA20 earlier this year, where he played for MI Cape Town and took eight wickets in five games.

He continued his good form in the series against Bangladesh in March 2024.

In the deciding T20 match between the two nations, he bowled a maiden over hat-trick, achieving career-best figures of 5 for 20.

Recently, he had an indifferent LPL season, featuring for Dambulla Sixers and picking up eight wickets in seven games.

Madhushanka also played for the Dambulla Sixers in the LPL but managed only two wickets in six matches.

He missed the IPL earlier this year due to injury and did not feature for the Sri Lankan side in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last month.

Sri Lanka and India will play three T20Is and three ODIs, with the first T20 scheduled for July 27 in Kandy.
