Wanindu Hasaranga will miss the remaining ODIs against India due to Injury

Hasaranga played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s comeback during the first ODI.

In a fresh blow to the injury-hit Sri Lankan side, premier wrist spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the remainder of the ODI series against India due to a left hamstring injury.

Jeffrey Vandersay, the 34-year-old leg spinner, has been named as Hasaranga’s replacement for the last two ODIs.

“He experienced pain in his left hamstring while delivering the last ball of his 10th over during the first ODI.

An MRI performed on the player confirmed the injury,” the SLC stated in a media release on Saturday (August 3).

Hasaranga’s absence is the latest in a string of injuries for Sri Lanka.

Dilshan Madushanka (hamstring) and Matheesha Pathirana (shoulder) were ruled out of the ODIs before the series began.

Dushmantha Chameera (bronchitis and respiratory infection) and Nuwan Thushara (thumb) were ruled out before the T20I matches that preceded the ODIs.

The first ODI at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo ended in a tie after India lost their last two wickets while needing just one run to reach the target of 231.

Hasaranga played a key role in the game, picking up 3 for 58 and earlier scoring a vital 24 to assist Dunith Wellalage in Sri Lanka’s fightback with the bat.

The second ODI will be played at the same venue on Sunday.
