Coetzee has not played for South Africa since May 2024.

Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are set to make their international return in the upcoming T20I series against India, having undergone “structured conditioning blocks.”

Meanwhile, Lungi Ngidi was not considered for selection due to CSA’s newly introduced conditioning break, as he focuses on preparing for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins in November.

Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, and Keshav Maharaj return to the 16-member T20I squad, having missed the white-ball series in the UAE.

Kagiso Rabada, however, has been rested for this series.

All-rounder Mihlali Mpongwana earns his first call-up to the national team, while uncapped all-rounder Andile Simelane, who was part of the UAE squad, also makes the cut.

Mpongwana, 24, impressed in the CSA T20 Challenge, picking up 12 wickets, while Simelane was joint second in the wicket tally.

The squad also includes 22-year-old leg-spinner Nqabayomzi Peter, who has played two ODIs and four T20Is.

However, Tabraiz Shamsi, despite being available to play, was not considered after opting out of a national contract.

“It’s both an exciting and important series for us as we continue to build towards the T20 World Cup in 2026,” said white-ball head coach Rob Walter.

“The squad offers a great mix of youth and experience, and I’m looking forward to seeing us deliver quality performances against a very attacking Indian T20 side.”

He added, “Our broader focus remains on exposing our high-potential players to quality opposition while also working towards our main objectives—playing exciting cricket that engages our supporters and secures victories for South Africa.”

The squad will assemble in Durban on November 4, with skipper Aiden Markram, Maharaj, Ryan Rickelton, and Tristan Stubbs—who are currently playing in the Test series against Bangladesh—joining the team on November 6.

The four-match T20I series will take place on November 8 (Durban), 10 (Gqeberha), 13 (Centurion), and 15 (Johannesburg).
