Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head have each been handed a demerit point by the ICC following their heated exchange during the Adelaide Test.

In addition, Siraj has been fined 20 percent of his match fee.

The incident occurred in the 82nd over, when Siraj dismissed Head and came close to him, delivering a pointed send-off while directing his actions towards Australia’s dressing room.

The ICC described the event as a breach of conduct, citing Siraj’s actions as a violation of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to “using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.”

Both players gave conflicting accounts of the exchange.

Head stated that after being dismissed, he simply said “well bowled” to Siraj, but was “surprised” and “disappointed” by the fast bowler’s animated response.

Siraj, on the other hand, denied Head’s version, calling it a “lie” and claiming that Head had “abused” him instead of offering a compliment.

Head was found to have violated Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to the “abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire, or match referee during an international match.”

This marks the first offence for both players in the last 24 months.

Both Siraj and Head admitted their respective offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by Ranjan Madugalle, the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, meaning no formal hearing was required.
