At The Tea of Day-5:

Australia scored 445 (1st Innings) & 89/7 dec. (2nd Innings), where as India scored 260 (1st Innings) & 8/0 (2nd Innings).

So, finally Australia lead by 267 runs.

Australia pushed for a win, but the elements continued to thwart their efforts as they swung their way to 89 for 7 in 18 second-innings overs, setting India a target of 275 to chase in 54 overs, weather permitting.

In a chaotic post-lunch session, following just four overs of play in the morning, Australia’s batters went hard at the bowling, briefly giving India a glimmer of an unlikely victory.

Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for the fourth time in the series, removing his stumps from around the wicket.

India quickly reduced Australia to 33 for 5, with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj each taking two wickets as Australian batters swung for boundaries.

Travis Head and Alex Carey added a quickfire 27-run partnership off 22 balls before Pat Cummins unleashed two sixes and two fours in a 10-ball 22.

Ultimately, the question was how many overs Australia could bowl with their effectively three-man attack to force a result.

After the declaration, India’s openers calmly faced 2.1 overs before bad light forced an early Tea break.

Earlier in the morning, India’s last-wicket pair added eight runs to their overnight total of 252 before Akash Deep was stumped by Head for 31, ending a crucial 47-run partnership that had helped India avoid the follow-on the previous evening.
