At The Lunch of Day-2:
India scored 180 (1st Innings), where as Australia scored 191/4 (1st Innings).
So, finally Australia lead by 11 runs.
Australia maintained firm control of the second Test with a solid batting performance at the start of Day 2 in Adelaide.
Marnus Labuschagne, overcoming a spell of indifferent form, battled his way to a half-century on a ground where he boasts an average of over 70.
His 65-run partnership with Travis Head for the fourth wicket helped Australia recover from two early strikes by Jasprit Bumrah.
India’s morning session got off to a strong start when Bumrah had Nathan McSweeney caught behind with a delivery that nipped away, and soon after, he had Steven Smith caught down the legside, leaving Australia in a precarious position at 103/3.
Head was tested early by both Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who bowled round the wicket, but Head weathered the storm.
Together with Labuschagne, he navigated through that difficult period and capitalized later.
Harshit Rana’s over saw four boundaries as Australia surged ahead after surviving the initial pressure.
Against the flow of play, Labuschagne edged a delivery from Nitish Reddy to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully, departing for 68.
However, his dismissal didn’t unsettle Australia much, as Head continued his strong innings, reaching his fifth Test fifty against India and his second consecutive half-century in the series.
This ensured that Australia gained the upper hand in the first session.
India’s frustration grew when a close LBW appeal against Mitchell Marsh was turned down on review.
The third umpire controversially ruled there was insufficient evidence to confirm whether Ravichandran Ashwin’s ball had struck the pad or bat first.
Despite additional replays showing the ball likely struck the pad first, India lost the review, capping a challenging morning session.
