At The Lunch of Day-1:

India scored 82/4 (1st Innings) vs Australia.

An action-packed first session saw Australia’s pacers dismantling India’s top order, with Mitchell Starc setting the tone early.

On the first ball of the match, Starc trapped Yashasvi Jaiswal, the centurion from the first Test, LBW with a full delivery, giving Australia the perfect start to their comeback.

KL Rahul received a reprieve when he was initially adjudged caught behind off Scott Boland’s first ball, but the decision was overturned due to a no-ball.

Rahul also had a lucky escape when Usman Khawaja dropped a straightforward catch at first slip.

With those chances, and Shubman Gill playing confidently at the other end, India managed to steady their innings.

Gill, in his first Test of the series, looked in good touch, capitalizing on Starc’s attacking lengths with some eye-catching boundaries.

Rahul, after a slow start, found his rhythm and settled in.

The pair added 69 runs for the second wicket, taking India to relative comfort.

However, Australia seized control in the last half hour of the session.

While all of Australia’s pacers had impressed, it was Starc, returning for his second spell, who made the breakthrough.

He had Rahul caught at gully by Nathan McSweeney and then got Virat Kohli to edge a tentative shot to second slip.

The session’s drama peaked with Boland dismissing Gill.

The batter, who had countered Boland’s off-stump deliveries with a different trigger movement, was caught out when the pacer bowled a full delivery that trapped him leg before.

In the space of just 15 balls, India lost three crucial wickets, leaving them in a difficult position at the interval.
