Day-3 Evening Session Highlights:
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli has spearhead India’s commanding performance on Day 3
At The Stumps of Day-3:
India scored 150 (1st Innings) and 487/6 (2nd Innings), where as Australia scored 104 (1st Innings) and 12 for 3 (2nd Innings).
So, finally India lead by 521 runs.
Virat Kohli scored his 30th Test century and 81st overall in international cricket, while Yashasvi Jaiswal struck his fourth Test century, a dominant 161, as India declared their second innings at 487 for 6, setting Australia a challenging target of 534.
Kohli’s 143-ball knock featured some elegant drives, including a half-century brought up with a flick to mid-wicket.
He built a strong partnership with Washington Sundar (89 runs), followed by a quickfire 77-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who played aggressively, including hitting a six over backward square.
In the final session, Kohli and Reddy’s partnership helped India extend their dominance before Kohli’s sweep to fine-leg brought up his century.
India then declared and sent Australia in to bat with 27 minutes remaining in the day.
The Australian response faltered immediately: Nathan McSweeney was dismissed for a duck, Pat Cummins was caught in the slips, and Marnus Labuschagne was trapped in front by Jasprit Bumrah, leaving Australia struggling at 12 for 3 at Stumps.
Earlier in the day, Jaiswal and KL Rahul continued their strong opening partnership, with Jaiswal reaching his century by ramping Starc for a six.
Rahul made 77 before being dismissed by Starc.
Australia briefly fought back, taking four wickets in quick succession, including the dismissals of Devdutt Padikkal, Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, and Dhruv Jurel.
Despite the setbacks, India maintained their firm grip on the match, needing just seven wickets in the final two days to secure victory.
