So, finally India lead by 321 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his stellar 2024 form, registering his fourth Test century and first against Australia, as India maintained their dominance in the first Test in Perth.

Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 141 at Lunch, with India adding 103 runs in the session for the loss of just KL Rahul’s wicket—Australia’s only moment of hope in the innings.

The partnership between Devdutt Padikkal and Jaiswal ensured the hosts couldn’t make any further breakthroughs.

Rahul and Jaiswal showed early intent, with Jaiswal softly dropping the ball and taking quick singles, followed by a couple of boundaries off Mitchell Starc.

Josh Hazlewood continued to beat the bat but remained unlucky, unable to find the outside edge.

The Indian batters kept the pressure on, consistently rotating the strike and frustrating the Australian bowlers, who couldn’t settle into a rhythm.

Jaiswal, having been tested in the nineties by Hazlewood, dispatched him for a six over fine leg to bring up his century, marking his third century of the calendar year.

He adapted well from the first innings, often playing the ball off the backfoot, allowing him to handle the bounce more effectively.

Jaiswal had a moment of concern shortly after reaching his hundred when he attempted a risky single but was fortunate as Pat Cummins missed the direct hit.

After completing a 200-run opening partnership, Rahul was dismissed for a well-played 77, caught behind off Starc.

Jaiswal then scored a couple of streaky boundaries, while Padikkal, the new batter, managed to get off the mark.

Nathan Lyon struggled to extract any turn, and with a spread-out field, the Indian batters kept the runs flowing.

Cummins turned to Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head to give his fast bowlers a rest before taking the second new ball, but this move failed to stem the runs.

India collected 20 runs in the first four overs with the new ball.

Hazlewood bowled a couple of leg-side deliveries that raced to the boundary for byes, while Starc’s attempts at swing were punished with boundaries before Lunch was called.

The pitch remained flat, providing ideal batting conditions, and India will look to extend their lead well beyond Australia’s reach.
