1st Test
Day-2 Morning Session Highlights:
Jasprit Bumrah has taken five wickets and India have bowled out Australia team for 104 runs
At The Lunch of Day-2:
India scored 150 (1st Innings), where as Australia scored 104 (1st Innings).
So, finally India lead by 46 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah became just the fifth Indian captain to take a five-wicket haul in Tests as India bowled Australia out for 104, gaining a first-innings lead of 46 runs.
That advantage could have been even greater if not for a determined 25-run partnership for the last wicket between Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, the best resistance from Australia’s lower order.
The pair survived 18 overs before Starc fell just before the Lunch break.
Alex Carey, the leading run-scorer in the Sheffield Shield for South Australia with 452 runs in three innings, was seen as Australia’s savior after the top order had been dismantled on Day 1.
However, Bumrah quickly ended those hopes with the first ball of the second morning, getting Carey to edge one behind to Rishabh Pant.
From the other end, Harshit Rana maintained his aggressive approach from the opening day.
There was some friendly banter with Starc, with whom he had won the IPL earlier that year.
Despite the exchanges, Rana’s probing lengths continued to discomfort the lower-order batters.
Eventually, Nathan Lyon gloved a short ball to KL Rahul at third slip.
Hazlewood and Starc, however, dug in, surviving several close calls and frustrating India’s bowlers.
They weathered a relentless spell from Bumrah and Rana that lasted 13 overs before India switched to Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Reddy.
As the ball softened, Starc grew more confident, playing shots with increasing assurance, while Hazlewood expertly defended, ducking under short balls with a leg slip in place.
Together, they pushed Australia past the 100-run mark.
With no breakthrough in sight, Bumrah and Rana returned to the attack, and it was Rana who eventually made the breakthrough.
He got Starc to top-edge a pull shot, and Rishabh Pant ran forward to take a well-judged catch.
