Australian fast bowlers have dismissed Indian team for just 150 runs in the first innings
At The Tea of Day-1:
India scored 150 (1st Innings) vs Australia.
Australia’s fast bowlers continued to apply pressure on India, dismissing them for just 150 in the 50th over of their innings on the opening day of the series in Perth.
Josh Hazlewood added the wickets of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshit Rana to the two he claimed in the morning session, while Mitchell Marsh and Pat Cummins both took two wickets each after lunch to wrap up India’s batting effort.
India started the post-lunch session with some confidence, as Dhruv Jurel played solidly on both the front and back foot.
However, Marsh lured him forward with a length ball that was caught by Marnus Labuschagne at first slip off the outside edge.
Washington Sundar was then undone by an extra bit of bounce, similar to Virat Kohli earlier, handing Marsh his second wicket of the session.
Rishabh Pant tried to fight back in the face of Australia’s dominance.
In the morning, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal had been forced into edging away from their bodies, while Kohli was dismissed by excessive bounce from Hazlewood.
Towards the end of the morning session, a determined KL Rahul, who had played well to negotiate the seamers, was controversially adjudged out by the third umpire after a caught-behind appeal.
Rahul walked off in frustration as replays showed a spike on snicko that came right after the ball passed his bat and as his bat hit his pad.
Pant, as is his style, took the aggressive route, charging at Pat Cummins and getting a thick outside edge that flew past the slips to the third-man boundary.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old debutant Nitish Reddy started solidly, although it took him seven balls to get off the mark.
He handled the bounce well against the fast bowlers and played confidently against Nathan Lyon, driving wristily through cover for his first boundary.
Nitish even used the reverse sweep to exploit the vacant areas in the field.
Both Pant and Nitish were fortunate during the session.
Pant survived a cross-batted shot off Mitchell Starc that Cummins failed to catch after running backwards from mid-on.
Nitish, on the other hand, escaped a potential caught-behind call after Australia hesitated to review; replays showed the ball had gone to Alex Carey off his gloves.
Eventually, Cummins broke through.
Pant had settled into a rhythm against the Aussie captain, even hitting him for a flicked six over backward square leg.
But when Cummins switched to over the stumps, Pant edged an outside delivery to Steve Smith at second slip.
Hazlewood then picked up his third wicket when Harshit Rana was caught at gully following an incredible one-handed effort from Labuschagne, diving to his left to complete the catch.
With Bumrah at the crease, Nitish took more risks in search of quick runs, hitting a spectacular uppercut for six off Cummins.
Bumrah also got into the act, hitting Hazlewood for a pull shot over the keeper’s head for six.
However, Hazlewood eventually had the last laugh, as Bumrah edged a delivery behind the stumps.
Nitish, who had moved into the 40s, was then dismissed by Cummins to bring an end to India’s innings.
