South Africa Women scored 124/6 in 20 overs, where as England Women scored 125/3 in 19.2 overs.
So, finally England Women beat South Africa Women by 7 wickets.
Led by their spinners and a solid batting display, England Women secured their second consecutive victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge navigated England through a tricky chase, which South Africa extended into the final over.
South Africa, batting first on a slow pitch in Sharjah, posted 124 for 6.
Captain Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 42, but the rest of the batting unit struggled to build significant momentum, despite a few useful cameos.
Marizanne Kapp contributed a quick 26 off 17 balls before being bowled by Sophie Ecclestone, while Annerie Dercksen added an 11-ball 20 towards the end.
England’s spin-heavy strategy early in the innings paid off quickly.
Tazmin Brits, dropped off the second ball, failed to capitalize, and soon after, Linsey Smith removed her with a skier to long-on.
Wolvaardt, however, kept South Africa steady, hitting three boundaries and building a 40-run partnership with Anneke Bosch.
Both batters faced some nervy moments, but Wolvaardt’s form ensured a steady run rate of over a run per ball in the powerplay.
The breakthrough came when Ecclestone dismissed Wolvaardt, and Kapp, who had been playing aggressively, was clean bowled by Charlie Dean.
Dercksen provided some late fireworks, including a six, but Ecclestone removed Kapp in the penultimate over.
Dercksen’s efforts in the final over gave South Africa a competitive total.
Chasing the target, South Africa’s bowlers kept things tight early, with Kapp and Ayabonga Khaka giving away just 16 runs in the first five overs.
Kapp dismissed Maia Bouchier and nearly had Alice Capsey as well, but Bosch dropped a catch.
England found a foothold as Capsey started attacking Chloe Tryon, and Wyatt-Hodge followed with a couple of boundaries off Nadine de Klerk.
The pressure remained on England, but Sciver-Brunt and Wyatt-Hodge formed a steady third-wicket partnership.
Sciver-Brunt began to turn the game in England’s favor, hitting a couple of crucial boundaries off Kapp.
Wyatt-Hodge rode her luck, getting a reprieve and making the most of it with aggressive play, including a key driven boundary off Nonkululeko Mlaba.
But she was stumped for 43, breaking a 64-run partnership and leaving England needing 11 off 12.
With Heather Knight joining Sciver-Brunt, the chase became a formality.
Sciver-Brunt struck two vital boundaries, finishing unbeaten on 48, as England completed a clinical win.
