West Indies team has dominated Scotland team to secure their first World Cup win
Scotland scored 99/8 in 20 overs, where as West Indies scored 101/4 in 11.5 overs.
So, finally West Indies beat Scotland by 6 wickets.
West Indies opened their T20 World Cup account with a commanding victory over Scotland, wrapping up the chase within 12 overs in Dubai.
Afy Fletcher’s impressive three-wicket haul, along with Chinelle Henry’s all-round contribution (1-10 and 18 off 10 balls), played a pivotal role in restricting Scotland to a modest 99/8 in their 20 overs.
Despite some early jitters with the bat as West Indies lost wickets consistently, a rapid 42-run partnership in just 20 balls between Henry and Deandra Dottin erased any doubts.
This partnership also helped West Indies recover from the damage their net run rate took after a 10-wicket loss to South Africa two days earlier.
Scotland began on a positive note after opting to bat, with Saskia Horley striking a four off both Henry and Hayley Matthews in the first two overs.
However, Horley soon fell to Matthews, miscuing a shot to mid-on.
Scotland’s top scorer from the previous game, Sarah Bryce, managed only two runs before being bowled in a wicket-maiden over by Henry.
Alisa Lister was fortunate to survive two dropped catches off consecutive deliveries but remained tied down by Henry as Scotland reached a modest 25/2 by the end of the Power Play.
Lister finally broke free with a boundary off Ashmini Munisar in the eighth over, but West Indies’ fielding woes persisted, with Lister dropped again by Henry.
However, her luck ran out when she was caught at deep mid-wicket off Fletcher.
Fletcher then struck again, dismissing Priyanaz Chatterji with her next ball, leaving Scotland at 62/4 after 13 overs.
Captain Kathryn Bryce and Lorna Jack hit a boundary each, but Bryce was dismissed while attempting a sweep, giving Fletcher her third wicket.
Scotland’s collapse continued as Jack was run out shortly after, while Karishma Ramharack claimed two late wickets, leaving Scotland at 99 all out.
In response, Stafanie Taylor began with a fortunate edge for four but was bowled the very next ball.
Despite some shaky moments, including Qiana Joseph being dropped on one, West Indies remained in control.
Joseph capitalized on her reprieve with a six and a four straight down the ground.
Hayley Matthews, however, wasn’t as fortunate, as her straight drive found a fielder.
Scotland’s fielding errors continued, allowing West Indies to stay ahead.
Olivia Bell provided a glimmer of hope for Scotland by dismissing both Shemaine Campbell and Joseph, putting West Indies at 59/4.
But Deandra Dottin and Chinelle Henry quickly shifted the momentum with powerful strokes, including a six and a four.
Dottin sealed the victory in style with two sixes and a four off Abtaha Maqsood, as West Indies chased down the target with 8.1 overs to spare.
