South Africa scored 166/5 in 20 overs, where as Scotland scored 86 in 17.5 overs.

So, finally South Africa beat Scotland by 80 runs.

South Africa boosted their Net Run Rate significantly with a dominant batting display against Scotland, posting the highest total of the tournament.

Opting to bat on a hot and sultry afternoon in Dubai, Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits, and Marizanne Kapp hit rapid forties to propel the team to 166 for 5.

This proved too much for Scotland, who fell short by a massive 80 runs, with Nonkululeko Mlaba taking 3 for 12 to officially knock them out of the semifinal race.

The foundation for South Africa’s second group-stage win was laid early by the opening partnership of Wolvaardt and Brits.

Wolvaardt, who was dropped on 2 in just the second over by Katherine Fraser at mid-off, quickly made Scotland pay by striking the next delivery for four.

She added two more boundaries in the following over, before launching off spinner Olivia Bell for a six and a four.

Brits, the quieter partner, gradually came into her own, smashing two boundaries through extra cover off Rachel Slater in the final over of the Power Play.

That 18-run over lifted South Africa to 60/0 and also saw Wolvaardt surpass Lizelle Lee’s tally of 1,896 runs, making her South Africa’s leading run-scorer in this format.

Wolvaardt’s fiery knock came to an end in the eighth over when Fraser redeemed herself with a fine catch off Bell.

Scotland’s bowlers kept things tight for a period, conceding just 23 runs over the next four overs.

But Darcey Carter’s first ball dismissed Anneke Bosch, and that brought the aggressive Kapp to the crease.

Kapp wasted no time, stepping out to hit successive boundaries off Abtaha Maqsood.

After Brits holed out, Kapp took control, using her feet to devastating effect as she struck six boundaries before falling in the 18th over.

South Africa added 44 runs from their final five overs to set an imposing total.

Scotland’s response began with an authoritative boundary from Sarah Bryce, but the chase quickly faltered.

Sarah was caught and bowled by Chloe Tryon in the third over, triggering a collapse.

Tryon dismissed Katherine Bryce in almost identical fashion, while Ayabonga Khaka removed Saskia Horley with a simple catch, leaving Scotland at 34 for 3 after six overs.

Wickets continued to fall, and left-arm spinner Mlaba took charge, topping the tournament’s wicket-takers chart.

She bowled Ailsa Lister and Darcey Carter, the latter bowled around her legs, as Scotland slumped to 45 for 6.

Katherine Fraser managed to fight on briefly, but her efforts only reduced the margin of defeat.

Mlaba claimed her third victim in Fraser, as South Africa sealed the victory with a series of excellent catches in the field.
