The ICC has announced that the winners of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will receive the same prize money as the men’s winners from earlier this year, marking a historic move towards prize money equity.

This decision was made at the ICC’s annual conference in July.

The champions of the tournament, set to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will earn USD 2.34 million, a substantial 134 percent increase from the USD 1 million awarded to Australia when they clinched their sixth title in South Africa in 2023.

The runners-up will receive USD 1.17 million, also up 134 percent from the USD 500,000 South Africa earned for reaching their maiden final at home.

The two losing semi-finalists will each get USD 675,000, a significant rise from the USD 210,000 in 2023.

The total prize pool will amount to USD 7,958,080, a 225 percent increase from the previous edition’s total of USD 2.45 million.

This makes the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup the first ICC event to achieve prize money equity, ahead of the governing body’s initial 2030 target.

“This move aligns with the ICC’s strategy to prioritise and accelerate the growth of the women’s game by 2032,” the ICC said in a statement.

“Teams will now receive equal prize money for comparable finishing positions and for winning matches at equivalent events.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will have higher prize money due to the participation of 10 additional teams and 32 more matches.”

During the group stages, individual match winners will receive USD 31,154.

The six teams eliminated before the semifinals will share a pool of USD 1.35 million based on their standings, a change from the USD 180,000 pool in 2023, which was split equally.

Teams finishing third or fourth in their groups will get USD 270,000 each, while teams finishing fifth will receive USD 135,000.

Additionally, the ICC has adjusted the schedule for the October 5 double-header in Sharjah: Australia will now face Sri Lanka in the afternoon, while Bangladesh will play England in the evening.
