Gerald Coetzee, the South African pacer, has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s all-format tour of South Africa (from December 10 to January 7) due to a groin injury sustained in the first Test.
The 24-year-old right-arm fast bowler experienced discomfort while bowling on the fourth day of the first Test against Sri Lanka.
Scans later revealed a right groin muscle strain, according to a CSA media release.
Coetzee’s recovery period is expected to be four to six weeks, which could also see him miss the start of the SA20, scheduled to begin on January 9.
He is part of the Joburg Super Kings squad, who will play their opening match against MI Cape Town on January 11.
In his absence, South Africa have called up pacer Kwena Maphaka to the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Gqeberha, starting December 5.
South Africa currently lead the two-match series 1-0.
