New Zealand Women’s opener Georgia Plimmer has been ruled out for the rest of the year after suffering a bone stress reaction in her groin, New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Sunday (November 24).
“Plimmer began experiencing pain in her left hip joint during last month’s ODI series in India, and an MRI scan followed by a specialist assessment upon her return to New Zealand confirmed the injury,” the statement said.
The injury requires approximately six weeks of rest and rehabilitation, meaning Plimmer, 20, will miss the upcoming home ODI series against Australia as well as the domestic white-ball season.
She is expected to gradually resume high-speed running in January.
“We’re really gutted for Georgia, especially when she’s in such great form,” said head coach Ben Sawyer.
“She’s a big loss for us heading into the important series against Australia.”
“After her recent success at the World Cup and in India, it’s disappointing she won’t be able to carry that momentum with the Wellington Blaze and against Australia next month.
Georgia is determined to rehab well and return as soon as possible, and we’re wishing her a smooth recovery.”
Plimmer had a standout performance in India, scoring 105 runs in the three ODIs.
This followed New Zealand’s historic T20 World Cup victory in the UAE, where she was the team’s joint-leading run-scorer with 150 runs in six innings, alongside partner Suzie Bates, at a strike rate of 119.04.
