Bangladesh have breathed a sigh of relief as pace-bowling all-rounder Tanzim Sakib has been cleared to return to competitive cricket after passing a fitness test on Monday.
The right-arm pacer, an integral part of Bangladesh’s white-ball setup, missed the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to injury.
Tanzim had suffered neck stiffness during warm-ups ahead of a National Cricket League match, where he was representing Sylhet Division in Bangladesh’s premier first-class competition.
“He passed the fitness test,” a member of the national selection panel confirmed to Cricpulse.
“It’s a huge relief for us, given his importance to the white-ball team,” the selector said.
“We missed him in the ODI series against Afghanistan, but the other pace bowlers performed well, making the competition tough.
Tanzim is a fighter, and I’m confident he’ll give his best to reclaim his spot.”
Following Bangladesh’s two-Test series against the West Indies, the team will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the hosts.
Tanzim’s clearance from the BCB medical team also paves the way for him to take part in the inaugural edition of the Global Super League in Guyana, starting on November 27.
The five-team competition will feature the Guyana Amazon Warriors (Caribbean Premier League), Lahore Qalandars (Pakistan Super League), Hampshire (England), Victoria (New Zealand), and Bangladesh’s Rangpur Riders.
Tanzim has been picked by the Guyana Amazon Warriors for the T20 tournament.
