Fast bowler Fatima Sana has been appointed as Pakistan’s captain for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup, which will take place in the UAE this October.
She succeeds veteran all-rounder Nida Dar.
Sana, 22, brings prior captaincy experience from her time leading the emerging team and domestic sides.
She also stepped in for Dar during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in December 2023, where she led the team to a thrilling Super-Over victory in an ODI.
The rest of the squad has been selected largely as expected, with only one change from the team that recently competed in the Women’s Asia Cup.
Sadaf Shamas joins the 15-member squad, replacing wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will travel to the UAE as a reserve player.
Of the 15 players named, 10 were part of the squad for the 2023 T20 World Cup, including Fatima Sana, Sadaf Shamas, Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, Aliya Riaz, Tuba Hassan, and Nida Dar.
Uncapped left-arm pacer Tasmia Rubab is a new addition, while left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal’s inclusion is pending fitness clearance.
The PCB has also named two non-traveling reserves.
The tournament, which was recently relocated to the UAE from Bangladesh due to unrest in the latter, will commence on October 3 and run until October 20.
