England’s Test captain Ben Stokes was forced off the field with a hamstring injury during a match in The Hundred, intensifying the national side’s injury concerns ahead of the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts in less than 10 days.
Stokes, representing the Northern Superchargers, had to retire hurt during a chase against the Manchester Originals.
He was assisted off the field, visibly clutching his left hamstring, and was later seen using crutches.
His teammate and skipper, Harry Brook, indicated that the injury might be serious.
“Doesn’t look great unfortunately; we’ll get a scan tomorrow and see how it is,” Brook said after the game.
Stokes had been managing a knee injury on his left leg, adding to the worry surrounding this new setback.
His stint in The Hundred was expected to extend beyond four games if his team advanced, but this injury may cut it short.
England are already missing Zak Crawley for the Test series against Sri Lanka, which includes three matches over a 21-day period.
