Shimron Hetmyer has made his return to the ODI squad for the series against England
Shimron Hetmyer has been recalled to the West Indies ODI squad for the upcoming home series against England.
He last played in this format against the same team in December 2023.
Since scoring a century against India in December 2019, Hetmyer has not registered a single half-century in ODIs.
His inclusion replaces Alick Athanaze, marking the only change to the 15-member squad that recently toured Sri Lanka.
Athanaze struggled with scores of 10 and 1 in the series and was omitted from the final ODI, which West Indies won.
The tour started well for West Indies with a victory in the first T20I, but they ultimately lost the series and the first two ODIs.
In the final match, Evin Lewis made his return to the ODI team after three years, stepping in for Athanaze and scoring a rapid century, helping the West Indies conclude the tour on a positive note.
Jewel Andrew, the 17-year-old debutant who did not get to bat in the final ODI, has retained his place in the squad.

“Facing England always presents a new challenge and reignites a rivalry that players and fans in the Caribbean are excited about.
We West Indies have a knack for elevating our game when we play against England,” said Head Coach Daren Sammy.
“This rivalry has a long history, and after securing our first ODI series win against them at home last year in a long time, we’re prepared to take on a strong England squad once more.
Playing at home is always special, as the local support brings incredible energy and passion to every match.
With our focus on qualifying for the ICC Men’s World Cup in 2027, we’ve selected a balanced squad that is ready to compete with one of the best teams in the world.”
