West Indies Clinch Fourth T20I Against England with Stellar Performances from Lewis and Hope

The West Indies secured a thrilling victory in the fourth T20I against England, chasing down a daunting target of 219 with an over to spare.

Evin Lewis (68) and Shai Hope (54) starred with a blistering 136-run opening partnership in just 9.1 overs, laying the foundation for the chase.

Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford then guided the team across the line.

For England, Jacob Bethell (62* off 32) and Phil Salt (55 off 35) contributed valuable half-centuries, but their efforts ultimately went in vain.

A high-scoring spectacle in St. Lucia saw the series return to its run-fest rhythm after a lower-scoring third T20I.

On Thursday night, just 294 runs were scored, but this time, the teams combined for a massive 439 runs on the same pitch.

England got off to a rapid start, scoring three boundaries in the opening over.

Salt and Will Jacks put together a brisk 50-run partnership off just 26 balls, but Jacks fell to Alzarri Joseph, caught behind.

Salt continued his assault, dispatching Gudakesh Motie for two sixes in an over and bringing up his fourth T20I half-century.

However, his stay ended when he gloved a short ball to the keeper.

Captain Jos Buttler also joined the boundary spree, hitting three sixes in his 23-ball knock of 38.

Bethell, after taking a few balls to settle, unleashed a range of shots, including a paddle sweep, straight drives, and cuts through the offside.

He took apart Roston Chase, smashing three consecutive sixes in the 17th over to bring up his half-century in just 22 balls.

Sam Curran added some late fireworks, blasting two sixes in the final overs to help England reach 218/5, with 63 runs coming in the last five overs.

In response, the West Indies were off to a slow start, scoring just five off the first two overs, with a streaky boundary and a wide.

But the opening partnership between Lewis and Hope quickly turned the tide.

The pair smashed 25 runs off John Turner’s over, including three fours and two sixes, while Mahmood also struggled, conceding three boundaries to Hope.

By the time they brought up 50 in 26 balls, the hosts were in control.

The blitz continued as Lewis and Hope hit a six every over, with Livingstone’s lone over going for 30 runs after he bowled five wides and was then hammered for three sixes and a boundary.

Curran fared little better, giving away 23 in the next over.

But just as the game seemed to be slipping away from England, leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed broke the opening partnership, dismissing Lewis.

England fought back, removing Hope (run out for 54) and Nicholas Pooran (bowled by Rehan).

But Powell, alongside Rutherford, maintained the momentum, finishing the chase with five wickets and an over to spare.

With this win, the series stands at 3-1 in favor of England, with one match remaining.
