So, finally England beat South Africa by 4 wickets.
Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a composed fifty to lead England to a 1-0 series lead in the T20I series against South Africa.
Chasing 143, England faced early jitters, but Sciver-Brunt and Amy Jones steadied the ship, guiding the visitors to a narrow win with four balls to spare.
Batting first, South Africa got off to a solid start with the openers adding 35 for the first wicket.
However, both were dismissed in quick succession, and Anneke Bosch couldn’t capitalize on her fast start.
England kept up the pressure, with Sune Luus falling for a duck next.
Annerie Dercksen and Nondumiso Shangase briefly halted the wicket fall, but their lack of big shots at the death left South Africa struggling.
Nadine de Klerk’s unbeaten 29 helped push the total beyond 140.
In response, England raced to 29/0 in just 3.2 overs, but a flurry of wickets brought them back into the contest.
After losing both openers, Sciver-Brunt hit a couple of boundaries to settle in, but then saw Sophia Dunkley depart.
The situation worsened when Heather Knight was bowled out for just 1.
Sciver-Brunt, however, found support in Jones, and together they brought England back on track.
Jones took charge in the middle overs, smashing two fours and a six in one over off Ayanda Hlubi.
That 22-run over shifted momentum in England’s favor, and although both Jones and Sciver-Brunt fell later, the latter’s composure helped England secure the win.
