Noman Ali and Aamer Jamal selected for Pakistan's first Test against England, with head coach Jason Gillespie discussing player preparations.

England versus Pakistan Test Series, 2024

Pakistan has selected Noman Ali and Aamer Jamal for the first Test against England

Ali last represented Pakistan in July 2023.

Pakistan have announced their squad for the first Test against England at home, marking the return of left-arm spinner Noman Ali and fast-bowling allrounder Aamer Jamal.

Noman, who has played 15 Tests for Pakistan and claimed 47 wickets, last featured for the national side in July 2023.

Aamer Jamal’s inclusion comes as a result of Khurram Shahzad’s injury.

Jamal, who impressed during Pakistan’s tour of Australia last year, had been sidelined due to back issues and has not played red-ball cricket since.

However, he recently made a successful comeback in the Champions Cup.

From the 17-man squad that played against Bangladesh recently, Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali have been left out.

The selectors emphasized that both players remain part of their plans but, citing a focus on consistency and continuity in the squad, they stated that “with 15 players deemed sufficient for a Test, the players have been advised to continue performing in the Champions One-Day Cup and the President’s Cup.”

The players selected for the series have been withdrawn from the Champions One-Day Cup playoffs to ensure they have adequate rest before the Test series, following the recommendation of head coach Jason Gillespie.

“Given the demanding domestic and international cricket schedule, it is essential to provide our players with some much-needed rest ahead of the Test series against England,” Gillespie stated.

“We are eagerly anticipating the series against England here in Pakistan and can’t wait for it to commence.

We look forward to playing in front of our wonderful supporters.”

The squad is set to gather in Multan on September 30, with a training camp scheduled to start on October 1.

The first Test is slated to begin on October 7.
