So, finally England beat Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs.

Agha Salman and Aamer Jamal’s fighting half-centuries went in vain as Pakistan were bowled out for 220 in their second innings, handing England a commanding victory by an innings and 47 runs.

This marked the first time in Test history that a team lost by an innings despite scoring more than 500 runs in their first innings.

On the penultimate day, Pakistan’s top order collapsed in their second innings after England took a substantial lead.

Heading into the final day, Pakistan still trailed by 115 runs with just four wickets in hand.

Salman and Jamal resisted the English bowlers for nearly an hour in the morning session.

Salman, who had already scored a century in the first innings, followed it up with a half-century, reaching the landmark with a boundary early in the fifth over, glancing a delivery down the leg side.

With little movement on offer, England resorted to a short-ball strategy early on.

Jamal looked uncomfortable against a few bouncers, narrowly avoiding fielders on two occasions, and even taking a hit to the helmet.

The pair put together a defiant 109-run partnership, marking Pakistan’s first century stand for the seventh wicket in the third innings of a Test.

While hopes of saving the match were slim, they brought Pakistan closer to wiping out the first-innings deficit and raising the possibility of taking the contest into the fourth innings.

Their resistance ended about an hour into play when Jack Leach trapped Salman lbw with a delivery that stayed low.

Despite a review, Salman was sent on his way.

Jamal, however, continued his gritty innings, reaching his half-century with a single to mid-on.

He survived further scares, including a dropped catch by Ollie Pope at square leg and a missed run-out attempt from Pope after a quick single.

Shaheen Afridi briefly entertained with a few attacking shots before mistiming a drive and offering Leach a sharp return catch.

The innings soon wrapped up.

With Abrar Ahmad unavailable to bat due to hospitalization, Pakistan’s resistance ended when Naseem Shah charged down the track to Leach, only to be stumped for 6 by a quicker delivery.

Leach claimed all three wickets to fall on the final day, but England’s victory was built on the back of Harry Brook and Joe Root, whose contributions helped England post a colossal 823 for 7 declared after being in the field for over a day and a half in response to Pakistan’s 556.

This defeat marked Pakistan’s sixth consecutive loss and extended their winless streak at home to 11 matches.
