So, finally England trail by 324 runs.
Milestone man Joe Root and Ben Duckett spearheaded England’s charge in the opening Test against Pakistan, with the visitors smashing 136 runs in just 25 overs by lunch, reducing the deficit to 324.
The session was particularly memorable for Root, who surpassed Alastair Cook to become England’s leading run-scorer in Tests.
The action kicked off with Zak Crawley making a statement, continuing his form by driving Shaheen Afridi through the covers.
However, Pakistanâs star quick eventually dismissed Crawley, who hit one straight to midwicket, departing after a well-crafted 85.
Duckett, who hadn’t opened the innings on the previous day due to a thumb injury, then stepped in and showed no signs of discomfort, immediately putting Pakistan under pressure.
The left-hander attacked Abrar Ahmed, hitting two consecutive boundaries and following it up with three more in an over to race to 34 off just 26 balls.
Root, meanwhile, found the boundary off Naseem Shah and reached his half-century just before the drinks break.
Duckett also brought up his fifty soon after, further boosting his impressive record against Pakistan.
Despite making frequent bowling changes, Pakistan couldnât break through as Englandâs batsmen remained in control.
At one point, Pakistanâs pacers found some reverse swing, creating brief moments of hope.
Aamer Jamal nearly trapped Root with an inswinger, but ball-tracking showed it would have missed the stumps.
In the same over, Root played a sublime drive, surpassing Cookâs tally and moving into the top five on the all-time Test run-scorers list.
With over 300 runs still in hand, Pakistan will be banking on reverse swing to change the game in the post-lunch session.
