At The Lunch of Day-1:

Pakistan scored 122/1 vs England.

An aggressive phase of play, highlighted by half-centuries from Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique, propelled Pakistan to 122 for 1 at lunch on the opening day in Multan.

While the pacers found some assistance early on, they failed to capitalize beyond the dismissal of Saim Ayub in the fourth over.

After electing to bat, Pakistan lost Ayub to Gus Atkinson, who trapped him down the leg side.

The batsmen initially faced difficulties, frequently being beaten, struck on the pads, or edging the ball.

However, as the movement diminished, Shafique began to find gaps effortlessly, even collecting three successive threes off Chris Woakes after the first half hour.

Masood took some time to settle but kept the fielders engaged with numerous edges that found empty spaces.

He survived an lbw appeal from Brydon Carse, successfully overturning the decision with a review.

Following the drinks break, Masood aggressively attacked Shoaib Bashir, stepping out against the off spinner and unleashing a flurry of boundaries to reach his half-century in just 43 balls—the fastest of his Test career.

Shafique, the more cautious of the duo, quickly followed suit.

In the penultimate over before lunch, he danced down the track against Bashir and then cut two balls for boundaries.

He capped off the over by lofting a delivery over long-on for six, bringing up his half-century.
